Homeowner shoots intruder in north Harris County

HOUSTON

Deputies say 20-year-old Cecilio Semis last night broke in through a window of the home in the 1500 block of Silver Bell in north Harris County.

The homeowner was asleep upstairs but heard a noise. According to deputies, he went downstairs, confronted Semis and fired his pistol. Semis was hit twice -- once in the ribs and once in the chest.

The homeowner then called 911. Paramedics took the wounded suspect to Ben Taub Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

Deputies say the homeowner's wife and kids weren't home at the time. Right now, they say the man appears to have been acting in defense of his home, and is not facing charges.
