The state says Taylor Marine Construction has a $17.5 million contract to fix the ship. We told you last year that the nearly 100-year-old vessel sprung a couple of leaks in its hull. They were later patched.
The major repairs are expected to begin in April. The battleship will remain open during the overhaul.
The repairs to the ship's structural foundation will occur deep within the ship in areas rarely seen by the public. When completed in the fall of 2014, the repaired hull will not be evident to most visitors.
