A local family says it closed a chapter Tuesday when the man who admitted to killing two of their loved ones was sentenced to life in prison.

Richard Prado pleaded guilty to killing his estranged wife, 29-year-old Rachael Prado and her niece, 19-year-old Jasmine rRhodes. Prado ambushed them and shot and killed them as they returned home in February of last year.

Prado had a history of domestic violence against his wife. Her family says she tried to get away from him, but Rachael Prado's father says he forgives his son-in-law. He says he forgave him right after the murders happened.

"I have no animosity in my heart toward him. He was like a son-in-law. My only thing is if I can help him to find what I have in God, that would be the greatest gift that I could ever receive," said Morris Madison, father of Rachael Prado.

Richard Prado was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
