Cold front may bring strong storms tonight in northern counties

HOUSTON

New data suggests the cold front may come through our area with little to no thunderstorms because of a cap in the atmosphere. A cap is a layer of warm, stable air that works to prevent storms from developing.

We are still expecting strong storms to impact our northern counties. Expect the cold front to arrive in the Houston area between 9pm to 10pm.

Texas A&M University launched a special weather balloon around noon. It showed the cap is weak north of Houston, meaning storms are possible north of Houston.

Cooler, drier air settles in behind the front. Temps will remain more seasonal for Wednesday and Thursday.
