The accident happened around 5:30am. The eastbound feeder road of I-10 was closed at Uvalde due to the police investigation for several hours.
According to police, a witness going through a drive-thru at a Whataburger saw the victim stumbling through the grass on the side of the roadway. He told police he thought the man might be intoxicated.
A few moments later, the witness pulled out of the drive-thru and saw the man unresponsive in the middle of the feeder road. He told police he was in the process of trying to block the road with his car when he saw a white car run over the man, dragging him several feet.
Police believe that was the second car to hit the victim.
"Two vehicles involved in this crash and if anybody has any additional information or leads, we'd like them to contact the Houston Police Department Vehicle Crimes Division Hit and Run," said Officer Robert Klementhich with the Houston Police Department.
The victim, who police say is in his late 20s or early 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The witness told police he saw the white car speed away eastbound on I-10.
Officers did find some debris on the roadway from what they believe was the first vehicle to hit the victim. That vehicle would have damage on the left front end.
