Police: 1 dead, several injured in SE Houston shooting

HOUSTON

It happened around 6:30pm on Tolnay Avenue near Sherwood Drive.

We're told two suspects walked into the house and shot everyone inside.

According to investigators, several people were hit and rushed to the hospital. One of them was pronounced dead, police said.

Neighbors said they heard multiple gunshots. Many of them thought the shots were fireworks at first because there were so many, but then they saw the victims come outside of the house.

"[One victim] was calling his mother on his cell phone. He said, 'Momma, I got shot,' and I could tell he was a young guy, and that's sad," neighbor Sherman Broomfield said.

"It's messed up that you just come inside someone's house and just start shooting like that, but that's how it is in the 'hood sometimes," neighbor Franklin Jefferson said.

The surviving victims are being interviewed by police at the hospital.

Police are still trying to piece together what led up to the shooting. They are working to determine a motive, though officials say there is a "strong possibility" it is drug-related.

Neighbors said they saw a dark vehicle drive away from the house after the shooting, but no further descriptions of the suspects or vehicle were immediately released.
