Houston getting new statue to honor MLK

HOUSTON

The shovels were out Sunday at a groundbreaking ceremony for the "Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Statue and Park Plaza" at MacGregor Park in southeast Houston.

Visitors say the memorial is especially important for young people who didn't live through the civil rights era.

The Black Heritage Society says it's been trying to build the local memorial statue for 35 years.

MacGregor Park is located at the Intersection of MLK Boulevard and Old Spanish Trail.
