Laredo man who robbed credit union faces prison

LAREDO, TX

Prosecutors in Laredo on Thursday announced 30-year-old Ansel Cruz pleaded guilty to armed bank robbery. No sentencing date was immediately set.

Cruz worked at the Laredo Federal Credit Union through 2011.

The place was robbed on Jan. 6, 2012, after regular hours as some employees worked late. An armed man wearing dark clothing and black face covering tied up several employees and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Employees who reviewed surveillance video recognized Cruz, who was arrested five days later.

Stolen cash, dark clothing and money bands used by the credit union were found at the Cruz home in Laredo.
