Teen faces manslaughter charge in fatal wreck

PEARLAND, TX

Nisa Nicole Sanchez, 18, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection to the early Saturday morning wreck.

Police say around 12:05am, they were dispatched to the 10000 block of Hughes Ranch Road after someone reported hearing loud noises coming from a construction site at that location.

When police arrived, they found an overturned Honda Accord in a ditch and a teenager who had died as a result of the wreck.

Police say a mud-covered Sanchez also was at the scene, and they could smell alcohol on her breath. Sanchez told police that she and the victim were at a graduation party earlier in the night and they just left a nearby gas station when she lost control of the car while making a turn.

Sanchez was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital by ground ambulance for treatment of minor injuries and later charged.

Police say Carnes Funeral Home transported the 17-year-old victim to the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office. Her identity has not yet been released.

If convicted, Sanchez faces up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Commenting on a story?
