The gun was found Wednesday at J. L. Lyon Elementary School, but Magnolia ISD was quick to point out it was not loaded, and the student who brought it had no ammunition.
District officials say they received information that the student had a gun and quickly found it without any problems. They say so far, they have no evidence that the student planned to use it on campus.
Deputies with the Montgomery County Pct. 5 Constable's Office were called in to investigate, and all parents were notified of the situation by phone.
The district says it is committed to providing a safe environment but have not yet specified how the student will be punished.
