SHSU The Woodlands Center police undergo training on how to handle shooter on campus

HOUSTON

A training session was held Monday at the SHSU Woodlands Center Campus. The course aims to teach officers how to isolate, distract and neutralize an active shooter.

University police are training with state and local jurisdictions that operate in the Huntsville area.

"In an active shooter situation it's hard to say who might be going in to assist you, and so you start building those relationships between the four departments," said Asst. Chief James Fitch with the Sam Houston State University Police Department.

This training is being done at the SHSU main and Woodlands campuses while students are on break.
