Deputy fires at suspect in parking lot of Woodlands Mall

HOUSTON

Eyewitness News is learning new details about the man who investigators say tried running over a Montgomery County Sheriff's deputy at The Woodlands Mall. Court records show Taud Damonn Washington was just released from jail a few weeks ago on misdemeanor theft charges.

On Wednesday investigators say Washington was caught trying to use a stolen credit card at several stores in The Woodlands Mall. We're told security began tailing him and called in deputies for help.

As a deputy approached the Jaguar Washington was driving, they say he refused to open his door and then backed into a mall security truck, causing damage. Investigators say a deputy fired his weapon at Washington's windshield as he began accelerating toward him. No one was hurt and Washington quickly surrendered after the shot was fired.

Lt. Dan Norris of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said, "He'll be charged with at least one count of aggravated assault. The credit card abuse currently remains under investigation, and additional charges are possible."

Washington has a long criminal history including arrests for credit card abuse and he's a registered sex offender. He's being processed at the Montgomery County Jail.
