On Wednesday, State Rep. Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) pre-filed the 'Merry Christmas Bill,' which would give students, parents and educators the right to celebrate certain holidays on school grounds with displays that we associate with them, such as Christmas trees, wreaths and menorahs.
It goes on to allow staffs at public school districts to say 'Merry Christmas' or 'Happy Hanukkah' on school grounds.
"During this time every year, I hear from numerous constituents who believe the words 'Merry Christmas' or 'Happy Hanukkah' should be protected and not subject to censorship in our public schools," said Rep. Bohac in a press release.
According to the Texas Tribune, the idea for the bill came after Bohac heard from his first-grade son last year that his class had decorated a 'holiday tree' with 'holiday ornaments.'
