San Antonio rapper on death row loses appeal

HOUSTON

The ruling Monday, without comment, clears the way for Ray Jasper's execution for the November 1998 slaying of 33-year-old David Alejandro.

Evidence showed Jasper hatched a plan to steal equipment from Alejandro's studio to sell it, recruited some partners and was loading gear worth as much as $30,000 when an off-duty police officer arrived at the scene. Jasper fled but was caught days later.

A Bexar County jury in 2000 deliberated 15 minutes before convicting Jasper, then took less than two hours to decide on the death penalty. He doesn't yet have an execution date.
