Derek Lawayne Manning is charged with assault of a family member as a second offender, following a July 2012 assault in Harris County.
On July 16, investigators with the Houston Police Department were called to a Houston-area emergency care center, where a 34-year-old female victim was receiving treatment for injuries sustained during an assault. Investigators say the woman and Manning were in a vehicle parked in the parking lot of a building located on the 3000 block of FM 1960 when they engaged in a heated argument regarding the victim's unanswered phone calls to Manning.
During the course of the argument, police say Manning struck the victim multiple times in the face, causing a fracture to her jaw.
