Officials react to deadly train-parade float accident

MIDLAND, TX

Gov. Rick Perry issued the following statement: "The tragedy of yesterday's train incident transcends the community who gathered to honor those who have given so much in service to their country. Their collective grief is being shared by Americans across this country as we mourn those who were lost. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families, and our hearts remain with the community as they began to heal."

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison issued the following statement: "This was a horrible accident involving parade participants honoring veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of them have given so much in service to their country. It is a terrible tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. It is important that a full investigation be conducted to determine the cause of the crash."

On Thursday Senator Seliger released this statement: "I had the privilege to speak to the wounded warriors at today's Show of Support luncheon as they were being honored by the community. I am enormously saddened by the news of this unspeakable tragedy. The hearts of everyone in the Permian Basin, and across the country, go out to these individuals who have served their country so well. The state of Texas is prepared to provide whatever help and support Midland County needs. We should pray for these individuals and their families."
