Volunteers step up to host Humble Thanksgiving feast

HUMBLE, TX

Caterer Bonnie Gardner had organized a community-wide dinner open to the public for the last eight years, but she announced months ago that she wouldn't be able to this year, due to a family illness.

"I have some personal family problems that I have to take care of," she said.

While the call for help had gone unanswered, it has been announced that several citizens met with Humble City Manager Darrell Boeske and initiated arrangements to continue the annual Humble Thanksgiving feast.

The event will happen on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, at Humble's Civic Cente atthe corner of Wilson Road and Will Clayton. The feast will be served from 11am - 2pm. Other details are still being worked on at this time.

In past years, the event took several months of planning. Organizers say this eight day planning schedule will be a definite challenge. Event planners say they need cash donations and volunteers to make the event happen.

Cash donations may be made in two ways:

  • Mailed to:
Humble Thanksgiving Feast, 1702 Wilson Road, Humble, TX 77396
(checks only, payable to "Humble Thanksgiving Feast")
  • or
  • Deposited directly to:
"Humble Thanksgiving Feast," c/o Citizens Bank,
    8811 FM 1960 Bypass Rd W, Humble, TX 77338.
  • Volunteers for one of four shifts are needed for the day of the event. Working in shifts will allow volunteers time with their families and time to serve others.
    Shifts:

  • 9:30 - 11:00 (preparation, set up)
  • 11:00 - 12:30 (serving food)
  • 12:30 - 2:00 (serving food)
  • 1:30 - 3:00 (help clean up)
