Few clues in double shooting that killed one

HOUSTON

Deputies spent most of the afternoon in the neighborhood investigating the crime, as many relatives grieved nearby. It was an emotional time for those family members and friends.

Investigators say a man, who relatives identify as Javier Sandoval, and his neighbor were inside his garage. At some point, two people drove up and opened fire, then fled the scene.

Sandoval, 23, was fatally wounded. The neighbor, who was also hit by gunfire, managed to run to a neighbor's house to call for help.

A 14-year-old girl was in the home at the time of the shooting, but she was not hurt.

The victim's mother, Connie Sandoval, says she doesn't understand why anyone would try to kill her son.

She asked, "Why they did it? I mean, what was the reason? I know he didn't have nothing, so why would they just come and shoot him?"

Investigators say they don't have a motive for the crime, but they don't believe this looks like a random home invasion. Nothing was taken from the home. They say the suspects arrived, opened fire and then left.

Deputies have only a very vague description of the suspects. They are looking for two men, possibly one Caucasian and one Latino, possibly driving a gray Honda. Anyone with information is urged to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
