Humble minister, wife get prison for tax fraud

HOUSTON

A federal judge in Houston on Tuesday sentenced Pastor David Montgomery and Bridget Montgomery to 41-month terms. The couple who founded the Restoration Temple Church of God in Christ in Humble must also pay $550,000 in restitution.

Jurors in August convicted the Montgomerys of conspiring to impair and impede the Internal Revenue Service in tax collections between 2003 and April 2006.

Both were also convicted of making false statements on their 2004 and 2005 returns by under-reporting $2.1 million from their business, Montgomery's Contracting.

Bond for the couple was revoked Tuesday after U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes determined the minister tried to intimidate witnesses who had testified against him.
