Summer's will to live: A horse's story of survival

HOUSTON

One special animal was named "Summer." She arrived with seven or eight others, but Summer was the worst off of them all.

Emaciated, she was in no condition to be left in a herd environment. The Houston SPCA Barn Team and medical staff separated her, giving her a private stall every night.

Severe dental issues added to the difficulty of this case. Summer was unable to properly eat, making it tough for her to gain weight.

But Summer had the spirit to not give up. With hard work, determination and a lot of medical care and TLC, she was able to make a full recovery.

Summer now has a new forever home with a boy named Wyatt and his grandmother. She shares her life with lots of other four-legged friends in a place with plenty of love and room to run.

See all of Summer's story in the Houston SPCA video above.
