Man charged with DWI after woman's death

HOUSTON

It happened around 3:30am at the intersection of Lindell and Spring Crossing in north Harris County.

Residents living on the street were up early Saturday morning. Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office deputies say an altercation between an on-again-off-again couple took a deadly turn overnight.

"I came out and I saw the cops over there and the guy was telling me this guy ran over his girlfriend with his Jeep," neighbor Saad Asif said.

According to deputies, the couple involved had been arguing throughout the night prior to the woman's death.

"Upon arriving out on the location, we learned there was a little more to it," said Lt. Wayne Schultz with Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office. "There had been a domestic disturbance that kind of escalated from there."

Deputies said the ex-boyfriend, identified as Jeremy Stanford, pulled out of his driveway and turned a corner. That's when the woman came running after him.

Investigators believe the woman jumped onto Stanford's Jeep and then fell off the hood as he drove away, but she also may have stepped in front of the Jeep. Officials said she suffered severe head trauma and was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she died.

Stanford stayed at the scene. He was charged with driving while intoxicated -- his second DWI offense, according to records. He was in jail Saturday evening with bond set at $3,500. There was no word on whether he will face additional charges.

Neighbors who didn't want to go camera told us this is not the first time authorities have been called out to this house. They said the couple frequently argued loud enough for many of them to hear.

Detectives said the investigation is ongoing. Stay with Eyewitness News and abc13.com for udpates.
