In his current assignment, Lieutenant Helms oversees a staff of 29 dispatchers and supervisors who control radio communications on 13 police channels, as well as the division's Alternative Response Unit (ARU), made up of personnel assigned to Teleserve, a telephone-based report writing unit; WebCop, an internet-based report writing service, and the Patrol Desk Unit (PDU), which seeks opportunities, via telephone, to find innovative ways of responding to calls for service more efficiently by developing alternative responses.
