Event for girls continues legacy of Sally Ride

HOUSTON

The Houston Chronicle reports reports that Lawrence told them Saturday that to make her dream of becoming an astronaut come true she needed to study math and science. She told them, "Yes, it was hard, but I kept working at it."

The event meant to encourage girls in science, technology, engineering and math was hosted by the Sally Ride Science Co., which has been hosting the festivals across the U.S. since 2001.

Ride, who died in July, was America's first female astronaut in space.
