Teen killed during police chase laid to rest

BAYTOWN, TX

With music, good memories and tears, friends and family remembered the life of Shawn Williams Jr. during services in Baytown.

"My son honored his mother and father," Shawn Williams Sr. said.

Williams died in a fiery crash October 19 when the car he was in was hit by a truck with two shoplifting suspects trying to flee police.

Williams' friend, 17-year-old Shay Hollingshead, was driving the car. At last check, he is still in critical condition.

Family, friends and schoolmates said Williams is missed.

"Shawn was a really good friend. It's really sad that he's gone," friends Brooklyn and Hailey said. "He was like a brother to us."

Dashcam video shows the aftermath of the wreck. The officer who was chasing the shoplifting suspects says he was pulling back from the chase and only maintaining visual contact, but it was too late.

At Saturday's service at Second Baptist Church, Williams' father took the podium to tell the hundreds of mourners something they already knew: His son was a very special young man.

"For a life lived to give to somebody else," the father said. "My son lived every day to give his life away."

The shoplifting suspects were later arrested. Shannon Chauncey is facing several charges in the crash, including felony evading arrest resulting in death and felony evading arrest resulting in serious bodily injury. Jennifer Jenkins is facing a misdemeanor evading charge.
