Man who escaped from Houston halfway house captured

AUSTIN, TX

Elkins escaped from Houston halfway house earlier this month. And now the person who tipped off authorities will receive $5,000 in reward money.

Elkins, 58, was arrest Friday in Coppell, which is outside of Dallas. The tip on where to find him came from Arizona, say DPS officials. The tip was that he was the passenger in a truck traveling through Dallas County. DPS officials, along with the Coppell Police Department, located the vehicle and pulled it over. Elkins was in the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Elkins was wanted for felony Failure to Comply with Civil Commitment Requirements after discarding his electronic monitoring device and leaving a Houston halfway house October 5.
