U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Juan Carlos Guerrero of Mission is charged with conspiracy to smuggle immigrants and commit bribery. Claudia Flores and Maribel Rivera are charged in the same counts. The three also are charged with a number of bribery and immigrant smuggling counts.
The indictment accused Guerrero of accepting bribes to allow immigrants to be smuggled while he worked border crossings between Mexico and South Texas.

The indictment was unsealed Friday as Guerrero's nephew, Jose P. Canto, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery and immigrant smuggling and conspiracy to import marijuana and cocaine.
