KCBD-TV reports Lubbock police on Wednesday released the patrol car camera video of the Sept. 8 incident.
Critics questioned whether the dog that was killed was dangerous. Police have defended the officer's actions.
Officer Clinton Lewis has his gun drawn while walking toward the fighting dogs outside a grocery store. Several people are nearby. The video shows Lewis waiving the bystanders back, kicking one of the animals to part the pair and shooting one dog.
Lewis wrote in his follow-up report that an aggressive pit bull was attacking another dog. Lewis says he and others were in danger.
Animal control officers removed both dogs.
