The victim is Lazaro Villalobos, a shift manager at a nearby Papa John's pizza.
Police say around 12:30 Tuesday morning, Villalobos drove around the corner to a Chase Bank ATM on Westheimer near Gessner to make a deposit after work. That's when a gunman, dressed in all black with a white towel or bandana masking his face, held him up. The gunman demanded money and Villalobos ran back to his parked Tahoe, but before he could drive off the gunman fired four shots.
One of those bullets struck Villalobos in the upper leg/hip area. He was able to drive to a Randall's grocery store where one of his two passengers called 911 for help.
Villalobos, 26, was treated and released from the hospital and is at home recovering. We spoke with him on the phone. He just said he's very tired right now.
None of his three passengers were hurt.
As for the suspect, he got away but without any money.
