More than $500,000 in cash seized from tractor trailer on Highway 59

Javier Jose Lopez, 38, of Harlingen, was arrested and charged with money laundering, after authorities seized $509,000 in U.S. currency concealed in a vehicle traveling south on Highway 59.

Authorities in Fort Bend County said they have seized more than $500,000 in U.S. currency in a vehicle traveling south on Highway 59.

On September 12, Ft. Bend Co. Sheriff's deputies observed a tractor trailer traveling southbound on the Southwest Freeway near Cottonwood Church Road. They say they observed the tractor trailer make several erratic lane changes, and then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at 59 near Daily Road.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Javier Jose Lopez, 38, from Harlingen. While speaking with Lopez, deputies became suspicious, and using their K-9 'Mike' they conducted a detailed search of the vehicle.

The search resulted in the discovery of $509,000 in cash concealed within the vehicle.

Lopez was arrested and charged with money laundering. He remains in the Fort Bend County Jail under a $125,000 bond.
