It has been 10 years since the Texans started playing football, but this is the first time the team has been picked by so many on the national stage to make the Super Bowl. And it is behind a huge increase in the demand for Texans gear.
The 2012 Texans season is still two days away from beginning but Glen Miller is not waiting to buy team merchandise.
"There's not much in here I don't have," he said.
But it's not just at the Texans store. Across the nation, Texans gear is selling at its fastest pace ever. According to fanatics.com, Houston is the No. 1-raked city on its websites for buying NFL gear.
It does not surprise Miller at all.
"I have been rocking their stuff since day one and I am just glad everyone else is, finally the team is doing what every one wants them to do since forever and they all have the passion I have had since day one," he said.
Demand for Texans gear is up 145 percent from a year ago and the biggest seller online right now is this basic blue Texans cap.
"All the hats are new this year, new era is making them they have always been in baseball but now they are doing what they do best in football," Texans marketing director Jennifer Davenport said.
Davenport says foot traffic in the Texans store has been more like a stampede.
The fastest selling jerseys may surprise you. It's not Andre Johnson or Matt Schaub, instead Arian Foster and defensive super star JJ Watt.
"If you follow the team, you know that JJ Wyatt has done a great job and people are representing wearing his jersey," Davenport said.
Texans games are sold out, so fans will have to turn to the secondary market for seats. For those who bought seats, it turns out the Texans tickets are somewhat of a bargain.
The average price is $78.66 at Reliant Stadium. That's just 28 cents higher than the NFL average. But for some fans price is no object.
"I don't look at the price when it comes to the Texans, I just don't. I just buy," Texans fan Victoria Rodriguez said.
Even though the game is a sell out, we looked on the secondary market and found tickets available, the lowest price are more than $80; the front row tickets are closer to $400.
