Obama says government will respond to storm victims

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA

Obama made the comment in opening remarks before a rally today near the University of Virginia.

He said he had spoken earlier with FEMA director Craig Fugate and Homeland Security head Janet Napolitano. Obama said he also had been in contact with governors and mayors in the area affected by Isaac, now downgraded to a tropical storm.

He also asked those present to be in prayer for those affected by the storm. He said politics shouldn't be an issue in storm response because in those situations "there are no Democrats or Republicans, there are just Americans."
