Longtime Texas DPS officer named head of Rangers

AUSTIN, TX

Dendy's appointment to lead the law enforcement agency was announced Thursday and goes into effect Sept. 1. He has served as second in command of the Rangers since last year.

Dendy joined DPS as a trooper in 1971 and served 16 years before getting promoted to the Rangers in 1987. He has worked as a Texas Ranger in Fort Worth, Midland and Waco.

Dendy's father retired as a Texas Rangers, and his son and son-in-law are DPS troopers.
