Four HS football players injured in rollover wreck along I-45

SHENANDOAH, TX

It happened just before 6:30am in the 18000 block of I-45. The four College Park high school football players were in an SUV driven by a 17-year-old who had recently received his driver's license, say police. They were on their way to a practice that started at 7am.

According to witnesses, the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed when it passed a car in the far left lane of the service road northbound, then cut back to the inside lane. The driver overcorrected, say investigators, and struck a concrete median, causing the SUV to roll over at least three times.

An 18-year-old was ejected and was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he's said to be in serious condition. The driver and other two passengers were transported to other local hospitals and are expected to recover.

The teen driver was given a citation for violating occupant restrictions. The restriction is that anyone under 18 can't drive a motor vehicle with more than one passenger under 21 years old inside who's not a family member.
