Texas sheriff's candidate accused of road rage

WACO, Texas

The Waco Tribune-Herald reported Tuesday that witness cellphone photos and a license plate number led to Edward Leon Rhoudes of Aquilla.

Rhoudes is the Democratic candidate for Hill County sheriff. He faces Republican Michael Cox in the Nov. 6 election.

Affidavits indicate two vehicles nearly collided June 8 on Interstate 35 in Waco. The car driver pulled off and later reported a man in a pickup followed, punched him and tried to choke him.

Rhoudes was arrested Friday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury. He's free on $2,500 bond.

No publicly listed phone number was found Tuesday for Rhoudes. Democratic Party officials did not immediately returned messages for comment.
