World's biggest passenger aircraft lands at Bush IAH

HOUSTON

It's a huge aircraft and the city's hope is it'll make a huge impact on the city's international business.

The Lufthansa A380 is a double-decker aircraft. It holds 526 passengers.

The entire upper deck is first and business class. There are unique bathrooms on board and a special humidifier that helps with jet lag.

And because it's double-decker , the city had to build a special double gate to accommodate it. In fact, there was $7 million worth of improvements needed to handle the aircraft and they got it finished on time and under budget.

"It will significantly, we hope, increase traffic into our airport system," said Houston Mayor Annise Parker. "We're going to do whatever we can to grow our international reach and this is a major step in that."

This is one of only four airports in the U.S. into which Lufthansa flies the A380 and the first in Texas. The airline will offer new daily service between Houston and Frankfurt.
