Galveston bus driver charged in pedestrian death

GALVESTON, TX

Investigators say Gwendolyn Rivers, 50, was looking at papers in her lap when she hit and killed George Hackett, 75. Rivers, who's charged with criminally negligent homicide, turned herself in Thursday and has been released on $5,000 bond.

The Galveston ISD bus carried more than two dozen students. Nobody on board was hurt. Rivers remains a district employee but hasn't driven a bus since the accident.
