Motorcyclist fleeing from deputy dies in crash

HOUSTON

Investigators said the suspect, identified as Darrick Shelton, 39, was wanted for aggravated assault of a family member. As members of the Gulf Coast Violent offenders Unit attempted to serve a warrant, Shelton reportedly jumped on his motorcycle and fled.

A Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy gave chase as Shelton fled down Spring Stuebner. Deputies said as Shelton was trying to pass a pickup truck, he clipped the truck's mirror and was thrown from his bike.

Authorities say the motorcycle then continued down the road riderless a short distance toward an SUV. That vehicle swerved off the road and came to rest upside down in the ditch. A female victim in that vehicle was taken to the hospital.

Shelton was pronounced dead at the scene.
