Skeletal remains identified in Pearland

PEARLAND, TX

On March 19, Pearland Police recovered skeletal remains from a property located in the 4600 block of Dixie Farm Road. At that time, the remains were collected and DNA that was recovered from the remains was sent off to the University of North Texas to determine if the DNA could be matched to a missing person.

Last week the Pearland Police Department was notified of a match via the FBI's CODIS database. The remains have been identified as Ramona "Mona" Dumas, a 48-year-old black female missing since 2008.

According to detectives, Mona Dumas was last seen on October 25, 2008 leaving a residence in the 4600 block of Maggie St in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Houston. Dumas' death has been ruled a homicide.

"Now that her family knows what happened to her, we need to find out who killed her and why," said Lt. Onesimo Lopez with the Pearland Police Department.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Steve Weaver at 281-997-4154.
