One dead in NW Houston house fire

HOUSTON

Firefighters were called out to the home on Lamonte near Costa Rica just before midnight. When they arrived, they say flames from the fire were nearly extending to a neighbor's home.

There was at least one person later found dead inside the home. It's not know if the intensity of the fire was the primary cause of his death, but firefighters say the search was complicated by burglar bars on the home.

"People need to address their home security needs but we really advise you to be careful and to have ways to get out yourself," said Dep. Chief Terry Stone with the Houston Fire Department. "More than once, burglar bars have prevented an occupant from escaping. We want them to consider that when they are addressing their security needs."

Firefighters couldn't do much to prevent the fire from spreading throughout the home because of its intensity.

Authorities are still working on identifying the victim. Right now, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
