Federal lawsuit filed after Harris Co. election mix-up

HOUSTON

The department has filed a federal lawsuit to void the results of the May primary.

The department claims the county used incorrect boundaries which impacted the District 4 and District 6 trustee races.

Some people who weren't eligible to vote in those races did, and others who were eligible couldn't.

The lawsuit calls for a special election for trustee positions 4 and 6 to be held in conjunction with the November 6 general election.

The department says it had to file the suit before the July 31 runoff.
