Texas Army National Guard retiring last AH-64A Apache

HOUSTON

The chopper has been the primary vehicle and weapon of the 1-149th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion since 1991.

The Army's total Apache fleet has logged more than 3.5 million flight hours.

A retirement ceremony starts at 10am at the Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base.

After the ceremony, the last A model will be flown to the Boeing facility in Mesa, Arizona where it will be upgraded to a D model featuring updated technology and a more powerful engine.
