Free indoor and outdoor activities for all ages

HOUSTON

It's summer break and for that staycation, maybe you'd like to head out on a free tour of various sites around the city of Houston -- and it's up to you to choose where!

The tour offers, among others things, a chance to check out historic art and architecture downtown or experience parks and trails in the city or tour Houston sports stadiums and recreation centers.

The free City of Houston tour is offered by the Houston Greeters through the Houston Visitors Center.

To plan your free tour, head online to sign up and pick what you'd like to see.

And for more action-packed free fun in the sun head over to Discovery Green and enjoy a free kayak class on Kinder Lake. The class features lessons in safety and instruction plus a lesson in supervised paddling.

You must be 18 or older to grab a paddle and kayak and participate. The class will take place Wednesday, July 11, from 6:30 to 7:30pm.

It seems no one goes anywhere without a camera these days. So Saturday, grab your camera and head over to Houston Public Library Central to learn more about digital photography.

The free course will detail the various characteristics of digital photography. Students will learn more about the features of the camera and how digital images can be managed and edited.

The class is Saturday, July 7, from 2 to 4pm.

And if you are looking for free and entertaining things to do with the kids indoors, Houston Public Library Central has that covered, too.

Monday, July 9, from 10am to 4pm is Sports Hour for teens ages 13 to 18.

Participants can head to the teen room to enjoy various sports, including golf, basketball and baseball.

And for the little ones, Monday is story time. Toddlers ages 18 months to 3 years along with their caregivers can join in for songs, crafts and playtime.

Toddler story time starts at 11:30am and runs until noon.
