4 dead, 2 injured in rural West Texas car crash

SONORA, TX

The Texas Department of Public Safety in San Angelo reports that the one-vehicle crash occurred Thursday at about 1:30 p.m., about 125 miles northwest of San Antonio. All six people were from California.

The driver, 41-year-old Maira Araniva of Huntington Park, was killed along with 51-year-old Vitalina Mendez of Bakersfield, 14-year-old Oscar Araniva and 8-year-old Francisco Araniva. The two injured were 41-year-old Oscar Araniva and 13-year-old Crystal Araniva.

DPS did not say how the victims were related.

The agency says the Ford Explorer Maira Araniva was driving blew a tire, struck a guard rail and overturned.

The elder Oscar Araniva and Crystal Araniva remain hospitalized.
