A METRO police officer tried to shoot a robbery suspect who crashed his truck after leading police on a high-speed chase.

The 15-minute pursuit ended on Druid near Carver in northwest Houston around 1am.

Officers say the suspect ran out of the car and hid from police. He even tried to shoot at officers. A METRO police officer opened fire at least once but didn't hit the suspect.

He was eventually tracked by a Houston police helicopter and a K-9 unit. After 45 minutes, officers found him in the 2400 block of Dalview and hauled him to jail.

The suspect has been identified as 47-year-old Derwin Gerhard Haynes. He faces charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, felony evading in a motor vehicle and failure to stop and give information.
