CenterPoint workers to help restore power to Eastern US

HOUSTON

The group departed from CenterPoint's south Houston complex this morning. For the next week, they'll be working around the clock.

A line of powerful storms left plenty of destruction in several states over the last few days. At the height of the storm, three million people did not have electricity.

The CenterPoint employees will stay there until power is restored to everyone.

"We help each other around the country," said CenterPoint's Ernie Kaster. "In devastating events like this, you can't have enough to take care of something like this, so we share resources."

Over the years, CenterPoint Energy crews have restored power to thousands of customers throughout the country following natural disasters.
