Conroe man, 80, accused of benefits theft

HOUSTON

Prosecutors on Thursday announced 80-year-old Kline Fisher Budd of Conroe has been charged with theft of government property.

The U.S. attorney's office says Budd has been advised of Wednesday's indictment and a summons will be issued. A spokeswoman had no information on an attorney for Budd. A message left at a phone number in his name wasn't immediately returned Thursday.

Officials in late 2010 began to review benefits for Willa Mae Shaughnesy, who would have been 104.

A death certificate indicates she died in November 1984. More than $231,000 was electronically deposited into a joint account with Budd since December 1984. He allegedly made monthly withdrawals.
