HPD: Mom, dad facing charges after trying to leave hospital with newborn

HOUSTON

A Harris County Hospital District representative says shortly before 7am Wednesday, one of their baby monitor alarms went off at LBJ Hospital in north Houston. The monitors are bracelets babies wear while they are in the labor and delivery area of the hospital and the alarm goes off when a baby leaves that area.

Houston police responded and detained the baby's parents. Police say the mom, identified as 22-year-old Elida Galvan, and the father, 17-year-old Ricardo Maya, are in the process of being charged with child endangerment.

Police did not say exactly why the parents tried to leave with their baby.

The baby was returned to the labor and delivery area of the hospital.
