HPD police officers to bike to California to help fight cancer

HOUSTON

On Tuesday morning, the Houston Police bicycle relay team left Discovery Green for San Diego, California. The 1,900 mile, 7-day ride, raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The team is made up of nearly 30 HPD officers, MD Anderson Cancer Center personnel, leukemia survivors and relatives of patients.

"Pretty much taking my dad's spot. His last wish was to ride on the HPD relay team. and unfortunately he couldn't make that wish, so me and my sister filled it in for him," said Jordan Leal.

"I'm definitely looking forward to it. I've been ready and looking forward to this for a long time now. Ready to do it for my dad," said Jade Leal.

Over for the past 30 years, the relay team has raised more than $5 million to improve the quality of life of persons with blood-related cancers.
