According to authorities, two unidentified black males kicked in the door of an apartment and started shooting at two men who were inside.
It happened just before 4am at Woodtrail Apartments on Richmond near South Gessner.
When officers arrived, they Erick McGauhey outside the apartment building. He had been shot, but he was still alive and was taken to a local hospital for surgery. At last check, he was stable.
Police then entered the apartment and discovered the other victim's body. He was identified as 39-year-old Kendrick Simpson.
There is no word on how many shots were fired, and the motive for this crime remains unclear.
McGauhey was able to give investigators some information to help them in their search for the shooters. Anyone who can help police is urged to call HPD or Crime Stoppers.
