A federal judge in McAllen on Thursday sentenced 28-year-old Eusevio Mendoza of Brownsville. Mendoza last July pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
Mendoza told prosecutors he was hired in April 2011 to drive a vehicle hauling about 640 pounds of marijuana. He was traveling from the Weslaco area when his truck nearly collided with vehicle on routine patrol.
Officers chased Mendoza, who abandoned the truck but was caught while trying to run away.
